Shirley's been waiting on a lung transplant for two years now. She started on the list at #32. Last week she was moved up to #1 for her blood type, etc. Shirley is my mother-in-law and Thelma and I were extremely excited to hear that any day now she could receive the "call" to come to Indy and receive the transplant! After years of breathing difficulties and the downward spiral of her lungs there is now hope in sight!
But, it's a strange situation. You see, for Shirley to live and have hope someone must die. How do you pray about that? Some family somewhere will experience loss at the same time we experience joy and hope. I've prayed that whoever the donor is that they are in a vibrant relationship with Jesus and that God will comfort those left behind.
You may wonder what this has to do with Small Groups. Glad you asked! In the midst of discussions about reproducing coaches, leaders, apprentices and groups let us not forget the "one who died that we might live." It's not about organization, planning and execution (as valuable and needed as they are!). It's about "helping people find their way back to the one who died that we might live."
By the way, we baptized Shirley into Christ a couple of months ago!
