Comebacks!

OasisAs you know, I love to check out new music. And I'm strange in that I'm always keeping in my head a list of my top favorite albums of the year, like I'm going to get to publish my list in Rolling Stone or something. (I will on this blog at least!)

So recently I realized that most of my favorite albums so far this year are comeback albums from older bands. Albums like:

REM -- Came out earlier this year, I've never been a huge fan (just a semi-fan), but for some reason I loved their new one and it's been my favorite of 2008.

Oasis -- Just came out a few weeks ago, and is definitely my new favorite of 2008. I know these guys can get whiny and some people can't stand them, but this album is really really good, probably because they copy the Beatles even more blatantly than before, plus add some blues feel (ala White Stripes).

The Cure -- Just came out yesterday, and I've been anxiously awaiting it for some reason. I like these guys more now than i did in the 80's, and they're relevant now because that keyboard-led music is popular again (The Killers, etc.).

So does this mean I'm old??  Yikes!  I do still like some new cool alternative hip indie bands. I still like bands nobody has heard of. I still listen to rap (The Cool Kids!).

I'm not old in music tastes yet, I just appreciate a good comeback album. That's OK, isn't it?
