Best of 2008 Music
Ok, here it is, a little late, but that's only because I put way too much time and thought into this--like anyone really bases their music purchases off my list. But let me keep pretending they matter. :)
If you know me, you know I spend (too much) time and (too much) money listening to and buying and reviewing new music. So, here is my favorite music from 2008. I won't call it Best of 2008, since there is probably better music from the year that I just haven't heard yet, but this is the favorite of the stuff that I did hear. And I do recommend it to everyone!
My Top Albums of 2008 (apparently I like comeback albums from 90's bands)
1) Oasis -- "Dig Out Your Soul" (amazing collection of rock/blues/funk, every song is solid)
2) Coldplay -- "Viva La Vida/Prospekt's March" (beautiful pop songs, enough said)
3) R.E.M. -- "Accelerate" (I've never been a huge fan, but this album is infectious all the way through)
4) Mike Doughty -- "Golden Delicious" (simple yet irresistible folk-rock, one song after another)
5) Shiny Toy Guns -- "Poison" (over-dramatic retro-pop, yet something so likeable about it)
6) Jack's Mannequin -- "The Glass Passenger" (more beautiful pop songs, and I usually don't like those)
7) Girl Talk -- "Feed the Animals" (the mash-up album of all mash-ups, I like playing "name that tune")
8) The Cool Kids -- "The Bake Sale" (80's rap is officially back, only took 20 years)
9) The Nadas -- "Ghosts Inside These Halls" (well-crafted folk rock, the formula still works)
10) She Wants Revenge -- "Save Your Soul" (Only an EP, but I love their dark electronic sound)
My Top Songs of 2008
1) Coldplay -- "Violet Hill"
2) M.I.A. -- "Paper Planes"
3) Oasis -- "Shock of the Lightning"
4) R.E.M. -- "Living Well is the Best Revenge"
5) The Nadas -- "Hammer Down"
6) Jack's Mannequin -- "American Love"
7) Coldplay -- "Yes"
8) R.E.M. -- "Until the Day is Done"
9) The Cool Kids -- "88"
10) Kevin Rudolf -- "Let it Rock"
Overall I think it was a great year for music. Lots of good comebacks, and a few good new artists, and some of my favorites put out good follow-up albums. I'm excited to see what lies ahead for 2009. So far all I know is coming is a new U2 and Hoobastank, but we'll see what else.
So go ahead, lay it on me--what travesty did I leave off these lists? It's not too late for me to still buy up some music you know.

Hey this is a quality list. I love Coldplay so I'm glad to see you rated them in the top 10 songs and albums.
You should check out some of the new and upcoming bands. Especially like this one: Full Service
